Graphics Card Choice

I recently ordered a new PC, and now it turns out the graphics card I wanted isn’t going to be available. Instead, they’re offering me one of the following cards:
[FONT=Arial][SIZE=4]
[/SIZE][/FONT] [FONT=Arial][SIZE=2]-Sparkle GeForce 7800GT, 256MB GDDR3

  • ASUS ATI EAX800XL 2DTV PCI-E 256MB[/SIZE][/FONT]
    -Gigabyte RX18L256V-B R1800XL PCI-E 256MB

Now I only really know anything about the GeForce series. When it comes to ATI etc I’m pretty much clueless. I’m not asking which is better, nVidia or ATI, I just want to know which of these particular cards is best, since they are all being offered at no extra charge to replace the card they don’t have in stock.

Any suggestions?

I’ve heard a lot of good stuff about the 7800gt, actually got one and I like it so far.

Not sure about the others.

What card were you trying to get?

Certainly not the X800XL. Usually I’d go with Nvidia, but I’ve never heard of the maker Sparkle. On the other hand, Gigabyte makes quality hardware.

^same about the sparkle thing, asus is what most use but most of the cards are pretty much the same so you shouldnt have to worry unless you getting it from a very shaddy site.

GeForce 7800GT, 256MB GDDR3, very fast card.

I’d go the 7800GT, but maybe grab a more well known branding.

A reliable but affordable price is a Leadtek Geforce 7800GT 256MB. If you want to go further for a lifetime warranty, EVGA’s version is good (www.evga.com). There’s also XFX which is also good…

Yeah, I was going for XFX 7800gt because it comes factory overclocked and still under warranty, but it seems they’re having difficulty with that. I went for this Sparkle 7800gt in the end, I just hope it’s not a really crappy brand. I found a couple of articles that said they were quite good, and the cooling looks pretty sufficient, which is a worry for me because I’ve had expensive graphics cards overheat before.

I love the GeForce that I have (6600 GT). Runs Half-Life 2 on max settings, that about all I could ask for from a graphics card, lol. :love:
