Guitar Players?

Hello Kirupians! :bu:

I just got a Fender Acoustic Electric. I was wondering if anyone knew of a good free site for beginners…? I found some stuff thru Google, but it is all too advanced.
Thanks

Lol

look for guitar tabs (=tablatures) of your favourite songs, a good band to start with is nirvana, their songs a easy too play, and you’ll have something to show off very soon

here’s a link: click

Hey,
I’ve been playing guitar for about 2 years,
and the one site that has always helped me was www.mxtabs.net
It has tons of tabs, I mean tons of tabs that will really help you.
You can try www.guitartabs.com also. Good Luck, if you need any other help, just ask

hey man i jsut got one for christmas…make sure u stick with it and ur fingers will stop hurting dont worrry.

www.olga.net is great thats the one i usually go to first…nirvana is good to start with and otherside by red hot chili peppers was one of the first songs i looked at… good luck man!!!

You gotta watch out only doing tabs, cause it may stunt your musical growth. It can definitely be helpful to start but don’t forgot some more music intensive sites with scales, theory, etc. Checkout www.cyberfret.com or www.cyberfretbass.com for all you bass players out there. And I highly recommend learning how to read music because it is an invaluable skill that willo really help you understand more of the theory and scale elements. Be patient, it takes time to really improve and get good, but if you put the time in now, you’ll reap the benefits then.

Harmony Central
tons of good stuff

even though it can be a little slow, definitely learn your scales. It’ll pay off down the road.

you need a book called “Total Guitar”

I’ve been playing for like 7 years now. (on and off)

You need to learn scale theory and all that as well as tab like Red said.

“Total Guitar” is an awesome book for that. The websites above are great also!

But…I’m a drummer at heart, always have been, always will be. Had to lay the guitar down to come back to them.

Heya! I’ve been playing for over a year now (accousic and electric) and these are the best sites IMO.

http://www.guitarforbeginners.com/index.html For accoustic, but there are some great tips here.

www.mxtabs.net was posted before, but is one of the best.

I also found the tabs for the Punk-O-Matic and now play the songs I make :stuck_out_tongue:

TIP: If you want to master the guitar, try to solve the “broken chords” of standard artists like Jim Croce, Bread, etc… These artists use ordinary chords but have added “combos” which make a new note, really, when the guitar is strum or plucked! Plucking instead of strumming can exercise your fingers making them more flexible. IMO plucking defines how good a guitar player you are!

But plucking is only a technical element, and does not really address the musical and hearing abilities of a player. There are some amazingly technical musicians out there, but I am largely unimpressed if they can’t solo, or play in a group well. Keeping the idea of well roundedness in mind is key to maximizing musical potential.

Hey Jay Em

I have been playing for 23 years guitar, bass and keyboards. All the sites above are valuable but I would suggest you pick a song you like and try and work out the chords yourself. If you can’t pick the chords then just start with trying to find the root note of the chord on your thick E string. This is a great learning experience. If you can do this then it means you can “play by ear” and will not have much trouble in learning music. If you can’t then you will still learn but it will be an uphill battle. Playing with other people is also “very” important.
Cheers

Thanks for all the links and advice people. I am on medical leave from work and the Doc. wants me to do something that isn’t stressful. I have always wanted to play the guitar. The first song I want to master is “Friend of the Devil” (THE GRATEFUL DEAD). Then I want to get into some Sublime. I can’t afford a drumset, or I would be banging around right now…
Thanks Again!
