Have You Ever Had To Buy A Domain Name?

I’m just wondering if any of you have ever bought a domain name that you (or a client) really wanted. I’m in the process of trying to come up with a name for a design company and want to make sure I can have the appropriate domain name as well. I did find one but someone else owns it and of course isn’t using it! So I enquired about the cost and they want $960 for it. That seems a bit high to me but I want some info from you guys on what prices to expect.
