I’m currently doing a volunteer job for the future Boston University Capoeira Club.
My friend, the president of the club, provided the logo.
I tried to work with the red-black of the logo and make the site feel Brazilian, without being too garish. She liked my original quicky design that you can see here:
But she does not like the color scheme. She wanted something that included the Brazilian colors: i.e. bright blue, bright green, and bright yellow. Since she already chose red and black for the logo, you can see my small dilema-- anything that uses red, black, blue, yellow and green at full saturation looks bright and garish (at least to me).
I redesigned it as such:
My main question is, do you like it? Do you think the colors look butt-ugly, or are they ok? Any suggestions for color scheming with all 5 bright colors at once?
I’ve checked a number of color schemers, and most of them say “no no no!” to the red-blue-green-yellow scheme. My main problem here is pleasing the president.
Thanks for the sites though, I’ll add them to my list of color schemers.
i like the first one seriously.
r-b-g-y is pretty hard to pull off. if i were you, talk with the president more and he’ll understand. you’re the designer, not him:)
I like the last one the best, but I still think you need to find a different home for that blue. Have you tried slightly darker, less saturated versions of those colors on this? You should be able to get away with making them more pleasing to the eye without moving too far from the Brazilian colors.
EDIT: Oh, you might want to drop the outer red glow on that one too, it looks really out of place. If there has to be something go with a subtle drop-shadow, or a glow in black with a low alpha.
Unfortunately I agree with the “no no no!”, but Sofy does not.

She likes the red drop shadow alot and says to make it bigger, and to add it to the logo…
She also said make the text background blue…
I convinced her to go with something desaturated.
This is what we’re working with right now:
p.s. thanks for keeping this thread active, guys, I really appreciate it.
Can you get an ok on switching the blues? So that the darker blue is the content background and the more intense blue follows the menu? I don’t think the results are going to be great anyhow, but that might help.
Do a fill of the brazillian colours (maybe even the flag) in the top section, then use a more subtle hue for the nav bar, then white in the content area and something that matches (but not too bright) in the bg.
just for a kick it would be interesting to see a complete resdesign of the logo and site put into one, all original because the club logo could use some serious improvement. Like most logos made by non-designers, they try to put way too much visual into the mark and then think a circle around it turns it into a logo.
i think the full saturations colors are all a little harsh and a simple brazilian flag in the header might get you out of the problem with the prez, then put in a workable colorscheme.
