Help with InDesign, edit images

Hey all,

Hope I can get some help. My problem is that I am in the process of designing my portfolio (for print) and I am trying to figure out the best way to work with images in InDesign. I have done layouts in ID before but none where color consistency of photos has really been an issue. (ex. I have a flat file (.ai) next to some photographs and I want the color of the flat flyer to match the street shot (.tiff), so change the flat color right? well what is the easiest/ most efficient way to do this so that I get consistent color?

Should I be using exclusively .PSD or .AI or .PDF or .tiff? Will PSD be better due to editability? (should i make my .ai rastered into a .psd)

A classmate said that there is some sort of deal with using .EPS and ticking a box to keep appearance or something? I was under the impression that EPS was an old format for postscript printers.

Essentially what is the best way to work in ID?

-I know all of the typography tricks, what I mainly need is the best way to manage the photos along with editability.
