High res images no importing correctly

Hello, I am trying to import some images into flash. In other programs the pictures look great but when I import into flash they look unstaurated and gross. I know photographers use flash for there portfolio’s. So whats the secrect. I have tried saving as a Tiff, Jpeg and bmp all change when brought into flash. Plus when I click on the imprted image in flash it come up in the property window as a bitmap? Any suggestions, thanks so much for your help.

make sure in your publish settings you have jpeg quality at 100%. i usually don’t like to use “import”. i find that it sometimes distorts the image. i prefer “import to library” and then dragging it onto the stage.

Hi!
This is my first (active) participation in Kirupa Forums.
Two things allerted me on your post:

1- What are Hi-Res images? The browser will always display at 72 dpi, no matter what.
2- Importing, to the library or stage is not the way to go. Try to load external .jpeg files, there are at least two tutorials on Kirupa.com that will explain how to do it.

On the other hand, if you really prefer to import the image files, just check the properties inspector by right-clicking the image in the library and de-select smoothing. This way they will look sharp and colorfull (no compression, leading to blurriness and loss of color).

Either way, do not used “progressive scan” jpegs, which will not be displayed by flash.

i think they meant high quality images. as for whether importing or externally loading the jpgs is better, it really depends on the situation. a main goal of externally loading files is to keep file size low, but if your images aren’t too big, it might just be better to just import them.

welcome to the forums rigreja.

did that help geko?

Thanks!
I just assumed Geko would like to dwelve into the “importing option” since he refers photografers portfolios, which lead me to assume some kind of dynamic gallery.

If its just to use as fixed background, then importing would be it!
