I need to learn PHP and Mysql but I have some terribly beginner-style questions (I’ve tried searching for answers, but I think all the other newbies are even farther ahead than I am).
First, I don’t have a server - just a regular computer with windows xp (it was built by a private company about 3 years ago). Can I install and work with MySql and PHP on my computer?
Next, do MySql and PHP files require CGI bin or some other type of bin? If so, is there any way I can fix my website and make sure it works before I find a host? If not, do any hosts offer the 1st month free so I can atleast learn a little about MySql and PHP before I commit?
And finally, does anybody know of any good tutorials that involve an inventory database (by MySql) combined with flash? I’m trying to make a site for a regular retail-style business where people can add to their cart and make purchases on line (can be through Paypal).
