I hate you, Thunderbird

Rant:

Dear Thunderbird,

I hate you, I hate you so much. And I hate Mozilla for writing such a thoughtless piece of software. You must wonder why… you seemed like such a friendly little program.

My hate for you started with a little annoyance - the way you handle editing emails. I know it’s cool that you have native HTML support and everything, but did you have to change my font to nothing every time I deleted a line? You couldn’t think… “hmm… this guy has his default font set to Verdana. Maybe he wants to keep it that way.” No, you couldn’t. You just had to be so concentrated on making the HTML work properly. “F*ck the user, right?” And what’s with the way you handle links? Why do I have to freaking press Ctrl+L every time I make a link? Why is it so hard for me to type normal text after a link? When I press space, it means my link-making is over. You don’t seem to understand that. Outlook does all of that… you mean to tell me that Microsoft made a program that’s more thoughtful towards the user than you?

I could tolerate those little annoyances, since I loved the way you handled my IMAP email. Oh, you were so good at that. But I was finally able to get Outlook 2003 and sorry, I just had to leave you. Outlook does all of the things that I love about you and more - for example, I can use ActiveSync with it. But you didn’t like that. You’re a hateful little program, and you decided to screw me. I didn’t know about the little suprise you had in store for me - that all your inboxes are stored in the mbox format. Oh holy f*uck, how screwed am I now?? You succeeded in your goal of screwing my life. In order to get those emails into outlook, I need to convert every single one of my messges to the eml format, import them into outlook express, and then import that into Outlook. Not only that, you penalized me for being organized… I have to do that operation on 15 different mail folders. Thanks a lot. You’ve succeded in screwing my life.

I hate you, I hate you so much. Some people would think that maybe it’s Outlook’s fault for not having support for mbox files, but no, f*ck that - it’s your fault. Even Outlook has the ability to export email. You don’t. You couldn’t even provide me with a function to convert my email to a csv file. I hate you, and I hope you die. I’m so pissed at you, I’m considering switching to Opera… that’s how pissed I am.
