You don’t need any fancy guides…believe me my friend all you need is pure unfiltered passion for what you do and everything else will follow
Now go make your dreams a reality!!!
Goto Flickr the forums/groups over there can give you the best advice of cameras. You can see what sort of photos each camera takes. Also a good place to look at the range/diversity of type of photography.
Do you want to be a professional photographer? or just have the skill for a hobby?
Personally just start off with a rubbish camera, go have fun, snap what you think is interesting. Follow lomographies rules as they just make photography a lot more fun. Don’t get too bogged down in cameras and lenses yet…
I’m gonna be doing some photography in my applied arts class. I’d also really like to try it out. Developing your own photos in a dark room is really interesting (at least I found it interesting). Is there any particular reason why some photographers prefer using film cameras over digital cameras?
It’s a great ambition Plastic! I’m half following it myself.
Just some simple things a photographer told me not too long ago-
1: If you ever take pictures of a horizon (such as a sunset, or something) try not to get the horizon in the centre of the photo, because it makes it very hard to keep the contrast right. Try to keep the most interesting area of the photo mostly in view, rather spreading them out (if that makes sense).
2: You probably already know about the thirds rule. But, if you don’t, here’s a link. I think. Yeah, here it is.
well right now I have a 3.2 mega pixel digital camera and I am just taking pictures of random things.
I want to be a professional photographer.
I have learned alot in a few days and I wish to keep learning.
I’m not sure, but I dont think prof. photographers make that much money… I’m not saying that you shouldn’t lol
I dont like your backyard… its very dull lol
Heres real expert photography
Professional photography is a pretty hard thing to get into. I’m not sure of the precise route someone should take, I think its pure luck or knowing the right people. If you look at flickr there are already lots and lots of people who think/want to be photographers, digital cameras have allowed more people the opportunity to produce more photos without the worry of expense…hence a sharp rise in photographers (obviously lots of these are bad) but it gives them a more affordable platform to do something which use to be quite expensive.
There are also lots of types of photographry/areas to investigate. Landscape, Nature, Architectural, Fashion, Film, Journalism etc. etc. Thats only scratching the surface. All these trades generally require v different qualities in the photographic composition too, (a good fashion photography may not produce the best architectural photos for instance) maybe you should research into them and see what interests you most?
I wouldn’t want to kill your interest but take photography up as a serious hobby if you want to be a professional, always carry your camera. Have a potentially related career in mind too. I started photography back when I was 12, but always wanted to be an architect. I studied art at college and now in my final year of architecture school…and its amazing the cross over required between many art trades such as this, I could take my diploma is so many directions its unreal…so i’m not saying don’t do it, I’m saying branch yourself out a bit as a safety net. Seriously look through Flickr, sign up, join groups, learn about the types and talk to others. Its great fun so enjoy it.
well right now its just a hobby I am still not sure if I want it as a proffesion but I think I really into nature but I will join flickr.
Right now im into graphic design but Photography is just a hobby for now.
Cool, well graphic design will have lots of cross overs with photography anyway IMO. So that would be a decent way to go if thats what you wanted.
I beg the differ bro, I work for Texas A&M University full time making 14.23 an hour and I have been doing photography in my studio part time the past 6 years and I make more money doing my part time photography and photoshoots then I do at my full time job as a Tech/DE at Tamut
It really depends on where you live, what your marketing for, what services you offer in photography, and your motivation.
My personal opinion I think the best way to learn how to be a photographer is to just constantly take pictures and start developing motivation and creativy. Like many have already set… looking at other photographers work is always inspirational and everyone has to start somewhere. I started off doing normal portraits and landscape photography. Eventually I started doing more model and high end photography and eventually got to where I was doing stuff for small magazines etc… You just have to try different things until you find where you best fit in and where you are best comfortable with.
Another good place to join / resource is deviantArt. Go set up an account, upload your photos, post on the forums and people will add you and make comments on your work, i’v been a member for a while now (click!), for some of my photography (although i’m not really into it anymore, not even been online at dA for weeks now that i’m at Uni).
You can also make money through dA, if you’re good enough (you can sell photos / artwork as prints. This is only really good for those who become very popular, ssilence for example).
Ok. Heres my take on it. If you really want to get into photography you need to choose a subject. Now by saying this i dont mean like crickets or something. you need to choose something that not many people out there think of. if you take the SAME pictures as other people then you will have no success because there will already be someone out there promoting themself.
Get a good SLR camera, preferably digital now because even though film is the sharpest image you can get, the digital SLR’s are getting really advanced. You need to take a course or something to learn all the features of your camera. (i.e.shutter speed, F-stops, Range of view, light meter…etc. etc.) There are TONS of courses out there that can teach you the perfect lighting conditions, shades and all that good stuff.
Photography is a REALLY expensive art if you really want to get into it seriously. Camera’s range from 700$-12 000$ depending on what you get.
the picture that you have posted in the First post… its blurry in the bottom, it doesnt have a focal point, the lighting is poor and it is boring.
