i dont know which part of forum should i ask this question.
i want to set up my own website. let say i’m a big fan of transformers. is it an illegal act if i use transformer’s pictures in my homepage?
e.g. as background, menu
i dont think so…as long as the pics arent copyrighted i think you can do it.
i dont think it is, unless you give credit back? there are tons of fan sites… and they dont contact anyone… so i dont see how its a problem…
i run a fansite, and CBS has never contacted me (its pretty popular) about getting their images off.
are you going to edit it in photoshop or something or just leave it the way it is. if your going to use one, i’d suggest editing it to make it more origional, rather than using the origional pic.
how do you know if it is copyrighted?
i always heard news about someone being sue when they use source from others site without permission… how about this?
^Replode, if he does taht to a copywrited image then its trouble. i seriously think its ok though. i have used stuff before. maybe at the bottom give credit.
i dunno, for example, people use matrix pics all the time in there pics, but they probably wont get sued. better safe than sorry though 
Well, I run a Transformers website as well. I don’t give credit to the people I took the pictures from. But when I take pictures with watermarks, then I leave the watermarks on.
Some sites have been pursued and given cease and desist orders because of their immense copyright violation. But Hasbro doesn’t really care if you have images and everything online, since that will actually help them with business.
Hasbro started cracking down about a year ago, but it seems like since OTFCC has begun, they have laid off, and only forbid non-public things, such as the recent Energon videos.

i have a feeling others will let it slide too. but if they ask you not ot use it, then just take it down, dont put up a fight. but i bet you will turn out ok, cause its free advertising. what more do they want you know?

And Geo, I’m more or less thinking that applies to every other company. It helps them with their public image. The company would be stupid not do allow them.
