Is PostScript dead?

I’m trying to think of some sort of format that allows users to define line styles for a grid and other objects. One name that popped up was PostScript. PostScript is a bit large for the current project, but it might just work anyway.

My question is, most of the PostScript tutorials are VERY old (1990 etc).

Does this mean that PostScript is old and antiquated, or would the world still benefit from a PostScript parsing AS3 library?
