Jpegs into flash interface

i am going to be making components for an interface in photoshop which i later hope to integrate into flash, if i have say a panel to be sliding out of or underneath another panel does it have to be a transparent image, i mean just the panel it self, is it not allowed to have a background if i want it to look like only the panel is sliding out

and does anyone have any sites with good tuts on masking, it seems like i cant find any

i strongly recommend saving most of your files in a few formats. I usually have a separate folder for my psd files and one my various images. I mostly use .png files in flash because of the quality and transparency it provides. As far as masking

thanks those are pretty good, what im looking for exactly are some advanced masking effects for an interface im trying to do, like have a panel slide out from behind another while doing an alpha fade or such

Those kind of effects you’re trying to achieve aren’t found in any tutorial, it’s all created by experimenting.

Trial and error is the best way. =)

If you take a moment and think about what you’re planning to do, does it necessarily need masks?

There are more than one way to do things in flash. =)

Your first question about transparencies - if you don’t want background to show… don’t have any (around your image)
…it’s that simple… must have transparency !!!

Your 2nd question… why didn’t you just bump your first thread on it and further explain where your problem wasn’t answered ???

…It sure doesn’t sound like a complex mask - a simple one at best or just stack the layers of the two clips and activate the lower one to “slide-out” on it’s own timeline from behind the upper one - by the click of one of your buttons.

Like EG said, The basic idea of masking is all your going to get (until you get into the spinning-draggable-trick ones) out of the Tutorials … the rest is knowing how they work and messing around till you get what you want
