Keeping a movie accessible to non-Flashers

Hia,

I love the idea of just clicking and watching a video with a tad of Flash animation surrounding, but when I tested my embedded idea on a non-Flash old machine (Windows 95) it was very messy. My project is to help socially deprived people get literate so I don’t want to assume users have Flash or the inclination to download it.

I’m thinking of keeping homepage straight html with a ‘watch movie’ link, then with an alert if they Flash or not (not too sure how I’d do this yet). Is there a better solution by which I can detect if user has Flash and if so automatically play movie, otherwise offer some Windows media player alternative.

any ideas much appreciated,
