Kirupa please help me with this one!

How do you accomplish the blur picture/masking alpha effect on this page -

  1. how is the blur accomplished
  2. what is done to make the masking effect clear so that you can see the real pic once the slider goes across the blurred pic - I know masking - I know how to use the alpha/tint etc - but I believe there dong something a little different
