Lagging on tweening

I have a project nearly done and I’ve run into a lag issue that I at first thought was due to something else, but I have realized is caused by the background bitmap slowing everything down during tweening.
Here is the site so you can see what I am talking about. It is worst on the “Tickets” and “About us” sections.
Is there a way to fix this…?

first of al I have to say nice done!!
but there are 2 things it does not move very smoot and thad STUPID music on the background is MUTCH to hard!!

but I think I have the problem I think you want to make the links and the zoom in on the same layer!! and he is turning al litle bit but try to make that on a difrent layer as wel

greets devon

just my approach, but i would start by vectorizing all the art. That may bring down the file size and make the tweens faster. other than that, you might try loading it in externally. You would have to play with the timeline placement to get a smooth effect but it may help with the lag of the tween.

also, if you are using any alpha or blur, find another way.

the big background should be in low quality when you do the transition. That should make it smoother. I don’t know how to set that. Maybe someone who is more AS savy can help u out with that

Very cool - the background looks extremely familiar; almost like “Medal of Honor - Allied Assault”. I expected an ambush at any second.

_quality. Also, I’ve heard cacheAsBitmap() can be used to reduce image lag but havent really experimented with it yet.

Are you using AS for your tweens or frames? I find using AS makes things a little smoother.

Thank you all for the feedback!

devon - The site was developed for a music festival that books bands of that genre. For a more mainstream site, yes the music would have been a bit much probably. But for the audience, I think it is appropriate. Also, it is an xml mp3 player, so my client can always change it as well.

Munkiegrl - I made a copy of the file and deleted every layer except the background image and a button to zoom into where the “tickets” section would be as it is the section with the worst lag. The laginess improved, but barely. So I did try vectorizing the background, but it actually made it worse if I wanted to include any of the realism of it.

Gupps and BlueNar - I tried using _quality and it did help, but again it was just slightly. I even tested the entire movie in low quality and it didn’t help much.
And I looked into cacheAsBitmap(), but my understanding is that is actually for vectors.

Rustyd - Thanks. I’ve shown it to a few people for feedback and compatability testing and “it looks like a video game” has been a common comment. I wanted to give it a fun, yet fairly simple-to-use design as compared to their current site that is really a boring, confusing headache in my opinion.

SlowRoasted - It’s frames. I don’t have very much experience with AS tweening yet, and my guess was that it would be pretty difficult with rotation, position, AND zooming all at the same time. Am I wrong? This would probably lower the file size significantly too I would think…

what frame rate are u using. AS is the way to go but i’m not good enough to help you with that. You should have two bg one in good quality and one that is not. when tweening use the low one and when in still position the good quality one shows. I hope someone gives an example as i’m interested in learning how that is done

I fixed the problem! Defective actually got it right - I forgot that even in my test that included only the background, I had left one of the buttons that lights up behind each section. It has a glow on it. The glows during the tweens were causing the problem. I deleted them from the tweens and it runs mostly smoothly.

Thanks for your help guys!

Here’s the mostly final product.
No, the guy who shows up 4 times in the gallery is not me. He’s the client - thought I’d give him a little laugh.
