www.3dbuzz.com

Shameless self plug:

long list of decent tutorial sites: (mostly Photoshop and Max)

yeah no doubt, all the ones mention and especially these two are all you need.

3dbuzz (free video tutorials, although you need to show participation/time on the forums to be able to download most of the new tutorials, they call it the “star” system)

ironik (great layout tutorial and help on the forums from the man himself)

and if you google search “beginner 3dmax tutorials” your bound to find million+1 links and tutorials.

You could also try www.pixel2life.com or www.tutorialseek.com. They’ve got a stack of tuts…

ouh… that pixel2life one is good… never seen that one before…

(and of course ironi is listed under max tuts… sheesh :stuck_out_tongue: hehe)

IMO many of the tutorials out there for max are the same, just on different lists…

Yes it is good to learn from different tutorials.
But if you are a beginner to 3ds max, you should do all the tutorials built-in from beginning to the end. Then you can look for other tutorial because you need to know how to do some exact things.
I know it sound tiring if you havent done them, but believe me that will help. It is nearly 90+ hours of work and you will feel yourself ready to start “using” 3ds max.

training dvd’s are good as well. digitaltutors I think have some also check out lostpencil.com he has some as well. If you were on LW I could direct to more.

I’m - personally - more interested in modeling tutorials when I search around. Trouble is, many of that kind explains the most basic of things, then next pic WHAM, fully detailed model with the text “just use what I just told you to make this…” and I’m like, “yeah how, buttcake…”

lol…I agree Eilsoe. Best thing I did was invest in a set of training dvd’s when I was starting. LW has an exceptional amount of very good books and training dvd’s tho, not sure about max. I tried some of the ones at lost pencil and his are good as well and CHEAP. Also I think if you go to www.simplymaya.com they have a max section called simplymax or something. They have good tuts there as well.

3dbuzz has switched to this new system that you have to have a star before you can get the vtm’s. But they do have classes for free online. But you actually have to turn in homework before you can go to the next section :bad:

dayum…

yeah I hate buzz for doing that… I used to check in everyday, but I don’t want to spam his boards for a rotten star…

I really want some of those training dvd’s too, I just gotta get’s me some dough first. I’ve had my eye on Gnomon WS’s dvd’s for a while now…

Buzz’s VID tuts have apparently become a free-for-all now. Last I heard they’d taken the rating system off.

wow cool…It was totally unclear to me how that worked anyway. Some peeps would have 20 post and a star while I had 300 something and no star. So I stopped going. I know a bunch of others who did as well. Nice to know they are free again (well you can get them readily now).
