Left 4 Dead demo

I just got done downloading and playing the demo. So far my first impressions are pretty good, its probably the best zombie game i’ve played, the animation and how everything is put together is pretty cool.

For example on expert(or advanced i can’t remember) it only takes a few pistol shots to kill a zombie, but you can sit there and shoot it for about 5 shots and its torso (or wherever your shooting at) will squirm and react to the bullets. The effect only gets cooler if you use a SMG.

A few things that annoyed me. The matchmaking system for one, my friend and i completed the download for the demo at the same time and couldn’t get a working server. The server browser on valve games is gone. We got on a game together finally but we both had somewhere near 300 ping, so it was unplayable. The UI has had some major changes, some are good, some are bad. Though the server browser is dearly missed.

Another thing is how weak the zombies were, i know there were a ton of them, but they have the consistency of water balloons, i fire one shot into the crowd and it kills four behind it. With the hunting rifle it just gets worse. Spray and pray works, and theres not much incentive to get a shotgun over an uzi, needless to say, the weapon balancing needs some work.

I played as the black character (shh thats his defining trait, hes the only black one, i don’t have to know his name) and he said some pretty funny stuff. Like when he was picking up pills he’d be all “getting some peeehls”. One time he was said something to the effect of “aww hell naww”. I thought it was pretty funny.

Fighting in the dark with muzzle flashes and flashlights is pretty cool too. Just thought i’d throw that in, flashlight and muzzle flashes definitely adds to the game.

It really does focus on teamwork, several times a horde of zombies will come at you and you’ll need to reload, but they’ll all be running at your, thats normally the part in single player games where your ****ed, but my team did an ok job of backing me up.

As for the game will be different every time, i don’t think so, the environments always stay the same, and all the cars, signposts, poles were in the same spot. The only thing that changes was where the zombies came from, when and it switched up the weapon spots a bit.

I was impressed, but like most games, it wasn’t worth staying up until 7am to play. Also, when it came time to un-encrypt the files, it made me sit through another 100mb update. Which took 50 minutes. **** move valve, **** move.

PS xbox 360 may have gotten the demo earlier, but did they get super special awesome flashlights I DON’T THINK SO.
