I have seen this effect before, and I know that it has been talked about. Could someone point me in the right direction??

When the top image fades in, it goes from “white to normal” I have seen that effect all over the place. You can see what I am talking about if you go through the nav. It is the first 3 sec of each section of the nav animation. Here is another site with the effect: http://www.spacefx.co.uk/spacefx.htm it is also happening in the start of each swf.
