Linking directly to a Word doc

Hi all,

I hope this is an appropriate question for this forum <:}

One of my clients uses Frontpage and very often links to Microsoft Word Documents. If you click a direct link to a Word document using Netscape, Netscape opens up Microsoft Word on their computer, and it is seamless.

However, If you click a direct link to a Word document using Microsoft Internet Explorer, a login box appears “Enter Network Password” and Requests “Please enter your authentication information”. If you hit “cancel” it will finally open the Word Doc for you.

Why does it do that when the file is not password protected, nor the server?? :frowning: This is very confusing to alot of users who think they need a login…when in fact they don’t!

For an example, visit this link and click on “Here’s a letter your supervisor should read” by the star bullets.

Is there any way I can stop this from happening do you think?

Thanks,
Heather Mc

i just did it, and it worked fine.
but if there is a problem with the password, its your server, not fp or ie

You mean it did not give you an “Enter Network Password” box? It opened right up for you? I wonder why it gives everybody else a password box. Hm… This makes me think of different browser versions. I might upgrade IE and see if it gives me a box.

It’s an Apache/Cpanel server, and there aren’t any problems with passwords that I give accounts. It’s just this strange box that appears only when opening up a word doc…that is not password protected at all.

what version of ie are you running now? crap, im running 5.50 lol. i didnt realize. meh, not my computer :stuck_out_tongue:
