Little Big Planet ... (Review)

EDIT:
Since Senocular posted a review before me - and it’s a much better more in depth look at the game I’m going to post that first … so please go there if you’d like to know more on Little Big Planet…

Otherwise please feel free to read what I had to say…

Ok so I finally got my copy of Little Big Planet (was supposed to come out on the 21st but was delayed till the 28th) … I pre-ordered it from GameStop and received it on the 25th … a few days early was nice.

So with that here is what I like…

Almost everything. The fact that the game looks amazing should be more than reason enough to play it. With amazing graphics and an all around good look - it plays nice with the PS3. You would expect a lot of these types of effects etc. to dumb down the system or at least make it work hard … but it seems like it’s ready to handle what LBP has to dish out. The gameplay matched with the very fun style of the game is also great. The fact that you can all out customize your Sackboy/Sackgirl to be anything you want as you earn stamps, stickers, objects etc. is awesome. It’s great to know that you can ultimately have a completely unique Sackboy with all the others out there.

The interface is very user friendly and easy to get accustomed to in a short amount of time. All the levels are fun and not too easy/hard because they offer you the ability to beat the level, but then you can go back and play it again in order to win more items etc.

Other little tid bits are kewl too. Such as the ability to control your “mood” of your Sackboy or if you’re playing with another person, you can smack their Sackboy around - it’s quite fun.

Then to add to all of it - the ability to customize and create endless amounts of levels of your own design is probably my favorite aspect of the game. Yet this brings up the only con I’ve got. The fact that for everything you can customize, the only way you get the ability to do these customizations is to either do a building tutorial or to play the levels and earn more objects/stamps/stickers etc. Granted it’s a good ploy to get you to not only build your own stuff but to actually play the game.

All in all for a new game that I got Saturday I passed the first 3 stages, played about 4 mini games, and built my first custom stage after going through at least 20 tutorials (about 4 to 5 hours total spent playing - mind you I’m a newly wed and it’s hard to find time right now to play video games) … and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Can’t wait to do more!

Oh, and since I got it early I’m assuming that’s why I wasn’t able to connect online and to play with others yet - the online support probably doesn’t go into effect till Tuesday this week. So I’m also anxiously awaiting that as well!

Good stuff!

If you own a PS3 do yourself a favor and get Little Big Planet.

(if I had to put a rating to it - i’d give it a solid 9/10 …)
