So, I’m beginning to work on a logo for a website. The site will be a collection of as much information as possible for shooters (competition, hunting, and sport). I can’t get into too much more at the moment, but you get the idea.
What I’m going for:
Credibility. This should be a site that people trust and respect, and the logo should reflect that
Information. It’s basically a big collection of info, so information/knowledge is a strong theme
Open. The goal is that this site will have contributions from a ton of different sources, and be a somewhat “open” resource.
Anyway, this is my first go at it. Let me know if you think it’s worth developing more, or if I should scrap it and start again. If it is worth developing, any pointers/thoughts/feelings/sweet nothings would be greatly appreciated.
My main thought is that the logo itself currently doesn’t have any gun/shooting symbolism. I’m not sure it needs to, though. What do you guys think?
Can you elaborate? I mean I get what you’re saying, but just thinking about it, I don’t think there’s going to be a question what the site is all about. The name pretty much describes it, and there’ll be gun imagery and lingo all over, etc…
For instance, I’ve never seen a logo for a bank that has anything to do with money symbolism or anything. I think it’s more important that it reflects the spirit of what it’s representing, and not necessarily a literal breakdown.

I think my complaint is not that it needs to be something silly like bullet holes or an actual gun, just that it should feel a little more “shooterish”. It’s not that it needs to be totally literal, but right now it seems more Scholastic and less [URL=“http://www.hk-usa.com/”]H&K, ya know? More a feeling than a symbol.
Actually, I thought for a moment that “Shooters” meant some kind of swing term for party goers. I agree that the logo looks great as a logo for something else. It doesn’t match the subject material. If it’s an almanac for shooters, then absolutely, a bullet hole through a page and potentially replace the “’” apostrophe with a little bullet illustration would do it wonders. Credibility is earned with good content, convey that to your client. Identifying the site in a sea of almanacs and wiki’s is entirely up to your skills in defining a memorable brand. I will forget an open book logo, regardless of how perfect it is. I will not forget a logo with a bullet hole and flying bullet. Sometimes a touch of humour is absolutely necessary to give a site just the right touch.
