I am currently redoing the DAB to be self-sustaining on CD…
this is the first idea I have gone to FW with, and even this I didn’t embelish much, other to show definition between objects (so I can talk about them easier), so don’t be bashful… I am not married to this in any way…
Looks simple and to the point, I take it that is what your going for. But one little tid bit of advice, change the bevel/emboss on the next button and maybe even make the bevel/emboss on the blue border a little smaller, looks a little thick to me. Is this going to be Flash?
thanks for the input. The client wants a more console/gamey kind of look. Yes, it will be flash…MX, so that it will be self-sustaining (it’s currently running on my server with Generator).
The next button is still in design… that was just a placeholder, just like the car parts on the left, but I will take that into consideration when I design the buttons…
the images at the bottom will prob be scrolling left to right, and then apply themselves to the appropriate part of the car on rollover.
The border on the blue thing is just something until I add texture to the “console” of some kind. I’m thinking of making it look industrial, bolted together kinda thang…
I to agree with the bevel thing. To me tho it looks kinda cheezy. I think you should make it look more modern like the modern game console. But if this is the look the customer wanted then you hit it rite on the money. I think the boltedt hing would be cool. It just looks kid like. Te car image is sweet. and I bet the functionality will be too.
The bevel is just so that when I talk to the client, there is no misunderstanding about which part I am talking about… He wants to be in on all of the design steps…
This is more of a starting place, composition trial, useablility trial, etc., so I do plan to make it look more plastic, shiny, and a certain feel of depth…
I like dans suggestion!!! minus the background and bevel. I think you would be better suited to leave it flat. Lexus.com has something similar to what you are doing. But I like the concept of style 3. The joystick. But I would put the jostick on the bottom of the images. Since that is how you would play a video game (stick below fied of view) If you know 3d I would do it in 3d instead of bevels. I think I have one modeled I can give you just gotta find it. Just add your elements to it. Make it look like a xbox controller. Also I would use less bold colors. So far the designs colors compete for attention with the actual concept. That is my .02. Let me know if youwant me to look for the modelled joystick
thanks for the input… I will take a look at changing the orientation of #3… makes good sense…
the colors/3d/rollovers are not final, or even close… this is just similar to sketching on paper (I actually do sketch out a couple first, then make up comps in FW)… I hope to model the controller myself, but will not hesitate to ask, if I need it tho… thanks.
I will prob go with less candy colors, but he tends to like bold, primary colors.
#2 is a take off on his current site, making it conform and look just like his online presence…
again, thanks for the input, it was just what I was looking for…
BTW - Dan’s suggestion is off a site which uses javaScript rollovers to do a very abreviated version in HTML… this is the one the client got all hot & bothered about… I hate it when clients want you to “copy” someone’s style…
Screw what I said if the customer wants it then that is #1…I have a few pieces that I do not claim because the customer wanted something crazy. an yes I hate copying others work. But the customer is always rite.
style #2 is designed to match his online image. On his site, on rollover the image enlarges, then clicking on the image gives the related case study. I would use the same hiearchy to achieve my goals…
Dan’s suggestion is a screen capture of a site he (the client) and got all excited about… I just don’t want to copy it, I would like him to pick an original idea, or style that we can springboard from (these are essentially digital sketches)…
style #3 would give instructions on rollover of the smaller buttons, the slider would change the vehicle type (suv/beetle/sedan, etc), then the images above would change depending on what is clicked from the menus which would appear as if from nowhere…
Style 1 is similar to my website, but with more bells and whistles… and MX, rather than Generator… I wish I didn’t have to learn this now…
:: smack! stop your whining! :: ::sorry Mom!::
that is the style I was going to go with, before his freak-out the other day…
who knows, maybe he will like a combination of a couple, or hate them all, and I will have to start over… I am usually surprised at which one the client picks…
again, thanks for the input. this project is going to be a pressure cooker (2 week due date)… I just hope I can keep in contact with the client over the holidays…
