I’m writing a story, and I’m in need of a mythological antecedent. The idea is this: a godlike being relinquishes his/her position in the pantheon in order to become mortal and win the love of a human.
The Little Mermaid is in the ballpark, but not quite it- the mermaid isn’t sacrificing any power.
