[ LONG VERSION ]
Hello;
We are yelostudio, a little design company. We do animation, illustration, yaddah yaddah whatever, and websites. I will not give you links for websites as they are all alphas for now and not really secure, so we do not feel confident to post a link on a forum (we will send you personal links if you contact us). You can watch some of our personal animation work on http://www.youtube.com/yelostudio (commercial works are not available for the moment).
We are currently overwhelmed by website projects, and we lack the human ressources to handle them. We are thus looking for freelancers that can work with us (notice I didn’t say “for us”, we are always looking for collaborators, not employees).
We currently have several projects that lack coders and designers. If you can code in actionscript & php, excellent, but if you can code only in one of the two, it’s also fine. We can separate tasks between PHP coders and actionscript coders. If you can design in flash, excellent, but if aren’t the technical type and can provide only jpegs of your designs, it’s also ok, we have people here to reproduce the designs and slice them. Of course, the more tasks you can take on, the more pay you can expect.
There are currently three types of projects:
-
Small websites:
Little porfolio websites. The coding skills required are merely coding an interface and calling a database to retrieve pictures. So:
Actionscript: displaying an interface (it should be coded, although creating it in the flash IDE is acceptable), handling an XML document, maybe using filters and stuff
PHP: calling a database, translating the contents to an XML sheet. Creating a basic backoffice for images uploading.
Design: most of those websites are some kind of trimmed-down, easy-on-the-eyes version of picasa. Galleries of pics.
There are three projects of this type -
Bigger websites:
For example, a portfolio for a big architecture company. It involves the same tasks that are described in (1), plus:
actionscript: advanced UI, like, let’s say, decomposing a textfield in several letters and make them fly through the screen, maybe some 3D (with a dedicated library such as papervision or written from scratch), spring effects, fadeout effects, bitmapData filters, etc…Maybe some particle coding, some very basic AI (A* pathfinding), etc…
Design: streamligned, minimalist, very clear.
There are two projects of this type -
huge website:
For a recruitement company. (this is more like a webapp, a.k.a linkedin or facebook). These projects involve coding an entire CMS, with a lot of advanced features, very high security, a large user database, forums, etc. We do not want to use any existing CMS such as drupal or something like it, so everything has to be written from scratch (although the usage of frameworks might be involved). It has not been decided yet if the developpement will involve flash or not. Most probably yes. If not however, then a javascript library such as jquery will be used. However, advanced effects will be home-coded (a.k.a,
no effects library such as scriptaculous).
We do not need designers for this project, a team is already working on it.
There is one project of this type.
As you can see, we require all types of developpers, with different sets of skills. We have some skilled developpers in-house, so if you are only an intermediate coder, it’s ok as we can handle the coding design and tell you exactly what to code and how. Of course, if you are able to propose a structure of your own it’s even better.
We like to work with creative people, we are always open to ideas and initiatives so if you prove your skills, we will gladly handle you the whole project if you feel so inclined.
We aren’t particularly looking to hire one thousand people, so if you think you can handle more than one project, fine by us.
So if you have skills in PHP, actionscript, javascript, flash, or webdesign in general, and have some free time, please contact us and provide the following info:
1 - some kind of way to see your work:
Can be an attachement (please don’t make it huge), a personnal website, some links (preferably to website you can prove you did, but we know itś not always possible), anything that can show your work. Please don’t send a huge amount of stuff. Some collected works (10 - 20 works) are better than an avalanche of whatever. And also, don’t limit yourself to web-related stuff. If you have some other works (installations, animations, games, desktop applications, books, articles, photos…), it’s all the better.
2 - contact info
your real name, email, phone. you can include a CV, but at yelostudio, we mainly don’t give much value to them. They are however a handy way to get an overview of an applicant. Feel free to include a CV or not. Ability to write in english or french is a plus. Lying about your skills is ok, but then you should be ready to work like a dog so we do not know you lied.
3 - available time:
If you are a freelancer, then you should provide your availability. If you are an employee willing to work freelance on spare time, you should provide your timeframe. In other words, we need to know how much per day and for how long you can work.
4 - Your prices:
The budgets aren’t huge (for the last project (linkedIn-style), the budget can be quite comfortable, it depends on the sponsors, we don’t know yet), but they aren’t small. We always pay fair. Know this and provide a pricelist, even a very vague one will do. If you feel unable to provide a pricelist when knowing so little about the projects, we can discuss this later when you will know more about them.
If you have questions, post them here. If you’d like to apply, send a mail to
xannax at yelostudio dot com
with “application” as subject, or anything that makes sense.
Feel free to say whatever you want in the mail, we will read each one. However, if it’s an empty mail with just an attachement, it’s cool. Do not feel the need to write a corporate cover letter, do not feel the need also to write in a formal tone (although if you are more comfortable writing in a formal tone, ok, it’s just that we do not care). In other words, just do whatever you feel like doing. You can write in English, French or Arabic.
A few words to end this post:
We are not looking for employees; we are looking for collaborators. We are not a company per se, more a freelance network. We already collaborate with people in France and in England. The main aim of yelostudio, aside from producing quality work, is to create a nice work atmosphere, the idea is to be in a group of creative people that help each other. Thus, we are trying to find someone to work with on the long run. So if our work is fructuous, and if we understand each other, you can expect a regular flow of projects from us. We are still a very young company (we do not have a website yet!) but we have been working in the field for a very long time (I achieved my first few freelance design projects when I was 14, and most of the yelostudio team began very early). And also, we are nice people.
Well, that’s it people, let the applications flow!
Have a nice day.
