…for my iPod shuffle, but I’m not exactly sure what specs I should be looking for.
For starters, I’ve concluded that the Apple white earbuds are pure effluence. They just sound too ‘mid-range’-ish, as in, not enough bass or treble. It doesn’t really have that same immersing sound as other headphones I’ve tried.
The iPod itself seems to be producing acceptable sound quality. I put on a pair of good headphones and switched the plug back and forth between my iPod and computer, and I didn’t hear any noticable difference in quality.
What I need to know is, what should I look out for when buying new earphones? I’m assuming the main factor is ‘frequency response’. I tested a few different ones that I had lying around the house:
iPod earbuds
20-20000Hz
Very little high-end or low-end response. Just plain irritating at high volumes.
Logitech Premium Stereo Headset
20-20000Hz
Similar to iPod earbuds. Not overly flattering.
AKG K-66 headphones
18-22000Hz
BEAUTIFUL. Heaps of treble and decent amount of bass.
Yes, I realise that last one isn’t comparable to earbuds, but meh… I want that kind of sound quality.
So ya… When shopping for one, should I just look for a response of 18-22000Hz or better? What other stuff should I look out for? Better still, can anyone recommend any good earbuds? I don’t want to spend any more than $40 at the very most. Oh, and I don’t want those in-ear ones. Scary.
Thanks in advance
