Looking variables in a mc that is using attachmovie

Ihave a flashbutton_mc>flashbutton>VARIABLE

flashbutton_mc is placed into empty_mc using attachmovie…

I want to get at the variables data… empty_mc.flashbutton.VARIABLE doesnt seem to be working.
