Low post count = restricted access

Newbies tend to post questions in forums like the source/code section.

I think newbies should be restricted, like unable to start a thread in that forum until 10 posts or something.

it would kinda mean they’d spam 10 annoying questions just to post a regular one which could suck.

Also Jenkins likes to drop his down to nothing, so his account might freak out.

ok a trial of fire and ice to prove thier worthiness to post

present members do not have to do the trial lol

This has been suggested numerous times and has always been denied. Good luck though.

Newbies are newbies,

restrict their access, and they’ll find new ways to be newbies, you can’t stop them, its best to just embrace them for who they are as people

I cant help but comment.

randomagain when reading your posts you at times yourself apear to be a newbie. I am not questioning your coding or knowledge. But what I mean regarding newbie, is all the unrelated nonsense in +80% of your posts. You may want to consider this and make more accurate posts without all the extra curricular items, silly comments and useless banter that you usually post whether providing help or not. I am not trying to be mean, but it really is pointless and not helping anyone.

Again no offense randomagain, but something you may wish to consider.

It’s not like there is overwhelming problem of people new to this forum posting in the wrong place. Just help them out and tell them where the best place to post would be. If need be the moderators can move the post to the correct forum.

There are already plenty of elitist, clique-ish, anti-newbie forums. We don’t need to turn this into one of those.

How is anybody supposed to learn anything if they are restricted from asking questions and making mistakes?

FYI - a high post count doesn’t make you anymore knowledgeable or cooler.

I find the idea of trying to block New users from getting introduced to a new forum by getting information/help to be pretty moronic.

The whole point of a community is to be… SHAZAM a community.

Most forums just have it set up so one cannot post links for the first 10 posts. This appears to be the best solution and does not limit newbies greatly… but would reject posts with links newbies will fix it spammers may just move on.

Yea this “restricted access” thing is ONLY good for spammers.

and this “no links thing” will pretty much throw the entire clientside forum into chaos.

This is just one of those ideas that seems like an awesome idea on paper, but would never get implemented because it makes the forum less accessible.

I personally don’t think that is a good idea. Take me for example, I have been a member since Nov of 2005 and I only had 2 posts up until about a month or two ago. I usually just enjoy reading threads, but recently I’ve been helping others out. But if that restriction was in place, then what if I needed help with say some AS3 code, I wouldn’t be able to post JUST solely on the fact that I don’t have 10 posts? Obviously then, I would be inclined to just go post randomly on 10 threads so I would be able to post my question.

The real source of the problem is people not using “Search” before they post and/or don’t even bother to try and read the stickies. But as others has said, it would cause more chaos if you required a new member to have 10 posts before they can start a thread. I personally think there should be more emphasis on utilizing the “Search” before posting. But again, that’s just my opinion. :expressionless:

no one reads stickies!!!

kill them all.

Not just my opinion either - kirupaForum

wow 2 posts, now lets count the ones where I help people :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I mean you wouldn’t have a leg to stand on if I didn’t purposely give you an opportunity

cough
wow 2 posts, now lets count the ones where I help people
Well anyone can look through your posts and access for themselves. I am sure anyone whom does will see “the extra curricular items, silly comments and useless banter that you usually post whether providing help or not.”
I mean you wouldn’t have a leg to stand on if I didn’t purposely give you an opportunity
Seems like most your posts provide this opportunity, again one would merely need to read through your posts to see this.

I force noobies to read posts and take things one step at a time, if thats what you mean

I stick “spammer” in my subtitle and you’ve been on my case since

Dude you know what I mean, no need to try and play it off. As I said in post #6

“Again no offense randomagain, but something you may wish to consider.

I was up all night after drinking 1l of lucozade, don’t twitches don’t mess with man. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

By the end of august I will be asking all the stupid questions…again.

@randomagain:

I’ve read the whole thread and yet don’t understand why you want to restrict acess to new members.

Your idea defeats the first purpose of this community, that was to provide a place for kirupa’s site visitors to discuss and get answers to their questions.
If a new user finds out that he cannot post his question unless he has reached certain post count, then I’m almost sure he’ll never come back again.

I know my first post here was almost certainly a question, and since then, I suspect I’ve probably answered many times more questions than I’ve asked. If I was never able to ask that first question I wouldn’t have become a member of the forum, most likely.

Terrible idea. :td:
