Managing a Mailserver / Using DBMail

Does anybody here manage a mailserver? If so, have you ever used or considered using DBMail?

[]How well does it perform in general?
[]The overview boasts scalability. Can you confirm w/ real-world situations?
[]The docs suggest not deploying on a machine w/ less than 1gig ram. Could it run decently on a development environment with around 256mb ram?
[]Any horror stories I should hear?
