Hello kirupers
My latest discovery in automation is this software called Marco Polo. I know this may sound like spam but I really think this app is great.
http://www.symonds.id.au/marcopolo/
It detects contexts like “office”, “home”, or even “working with flash” and then lets you do all sorts of things when you change to a new context or leave one.
Maybe this doesn’t sound impressing but hear this:
I open flash, then I open textmate, then automatically Marco Polo detetcts I’m in flash context and it runs:
-
some pdfs I find useful for coding
-
an apple script that opens some urls: kirupa forum, as3 livedocs, some class documentation, some other as3 forum…
-
some other application
Then I go to work and of course the keyboard there is for windows, so I tell Marco Polo to run an applescript that modifies the keyboard settings everytime I get to work.
Then of course when I leave the office it restores to deafult keyboard settings with another script so that the key mapping is right in my laptop’s keyboard and the apple keyboard at home.
this is the ultimate automation!!!
Before I had to go to the keyboard preferences, or open each url by hand, and now it’s automatically in seconds.
If you want to know how I did it step by step just ask
