Everyone knows about mediatemple and their hosting, well…most do i guess.
I recently switched to them for a shared hosting package, i did have my site on just an ‘average’ server…and was paying less.
Now it seems ive made the transition to mediatemple, my site takes at least twice as long to load. All sections are slow, and having developed my site and tested it on my old server, it now seems completley pointless as you have to wait too long to get in.
I dont know if this is a reflection of a ‘shared hosting’ environment with the service i am signed up for or if it’s something else. Either way i was expecting a bit more from it, considering i’m paying for a more professional server, or so i thought. I thought i’d consult the forums to see if anyone else has any experience of this before i consider what to do.
I was wondering if anyone else has any ideas, or indeed if anyone has had the same situation, since i now feel like im paying more for less…the only bonus i feel now is that i have a higher data transfer rate per month, albeit at the cost of download rate.
Shared Hosting = multiple sites sharing the same server = high server load = slow page load.
MediaTemple is a popular hosting choice so chances are your shared server is sharing with quite the high amount of other sites and it is probably why it is slow. Unfortunately.
may i ask why you switched? were you having problems with your previous web host?
honestly i’d have to say that IPower is unreal. i mean it’s cheap, easy to use, and killer bandwidth.
im not sure what their cancle policy is but if you can i would shop around. nothing worse then having your site load really slow esp when your paying good money, which i know MT def costs a nice penny.
Yeah I switched because my old host was just standard hosting, no mysql, email options were terrible etc…plus their customer service was a bit lacking.
So i thought mediatemple purely because they seem to be a bit of an industry standard so i thought i’d check them out.
The loading slow aspect is a huge killer, especially when you’re site’s in flash, and made for fast connections.
I can cancel with media temple with just a months notice, i made sure i didnt tie myself down to it, incase there was problems…maybe its time for having a rethink.
You say Ipower? will check them out…Anyone else know of any other good hosts that offer good connection and decent bandwidth that dont have extra busy servers?!

bro trust me, i wouldnt stear you wrong.
Ipowerweb, comes with forums, shopping carts and tons more, if you want ill send you a screenshot of the control panel
I use iPowerWeb for one of my sites too. They are pretty dern good. Only 2 complaints, the costumer support is occasionaly not-so-helpful, but it is always fast, so that’s good I suppose. Also you only get 2 mySQL databases, you have to pay after that, and you have to pay 10 bucks for subdomains. If that doesn’t bother you, definitely check them out, they are good.
Another good one is www.dr2.net - They are a fairly new place, but it’s incredibly cheap and you get every feature you would ever need, and the costumer service is amazing, I use them for my other site.
also, try www.siteflip.com they’re great, and offer a LOT of features (unlimited emails, unlimited mySQL databases, php, etc) and the control panel looks almost identical to what digital posted. also, it’s only a dollar per month :thumb:
Media temple is FANTASTIC. I don’t care paying a few dollars more and the bandwidth is more then I’d ever need. They do backups and are pioneers in many things that make their service great. For example mapping other domains right into one common FTP account and same with Sub domains.
Its very fast, excellent speed for SoCal and whenever you pickup the phone there is a real person to talk to. Usually there is no wait, and the tech support actually knows what they are doing.
