Methodology Question

Hello all,

I’m about 4 years deep in web design, and slight development. I’m very fluent with XHTML, CSS, and some AS, but the project that lays before me is screaming towards a better way. Basically a client of mine is in the landscaping business. I created a Full Flash site for them a little over a year ago http://www.goshenenterprises.com

Anyway they now would like to have a “Plant List” of all of the plants they use in installations. I’m kinda under a time crunch as I’m going back to grad school the first of June… So I was just going to do what I know, and that is just create a list page that links to individual pages for each of the 300+ plants they have available… This just seems so primary and laborious to me, and I know there is a better way.

Eventually they would like to be more of a searchable database of plants so id like to build something that can eventually be useful for that, but I really do not know where to even start to develop something like that. I have gone through many scripting language tutorials and such (PHP, SQL, ASP) and understand a bit, but I don’t even know where to begin with this.

I’m just guessing here but wouldn’t a better way to do this be to set up the information/images in a database, and have a layout that displays unique records called upon by links in a list. That way I can just build one page and just create unique queries to attach to links that displays data from the database? Or am I thinking about this all wrong. I know that there are always more than one way to skin a sheep…

I guess I am just looking for your professional thoughts, and suggestions as far as how I should go about doing this, and where to look in order to get information to get me started.

If this request is totally off the wall, I do apologize, I’m just at a total loss.

Thanks in advance for all of your help
