Most Important Language

i took latin for a while… but the declensions were so annoying and it was over sattelite… plus i got mono hlf way tjrough and missed like three weeks of it…
valete!

After reading trough all this, I’m thinking of making a French version of my site! :thumb:

:sure:

Canadian curriculum states that we have to learn french from grade 4 to grade 9. I started when I was in kindergarden (french immersion program) so now I know french pretty well. I’m taking through to the end of my highschool career, and I plan on taking some german night classes. I’m not really sure why but I want to. I also want to learn latin because etymology (and languages in general) interests me. I know a few basic things of latin through process of elimination (ex: ortho = straight, orthodentist - teeth straightener  I think I’m a genius). Anyway, back on topic: French second most important language? Well, I guess. The english and the french more or less dominated the west and midwest so I suppose it would be important that way, however I think that some time soon the orient languages are going to become more important because thats where all the tech companies are. Big example: Japan. Actually one of my co-workers speaks (and can even read) Japanese really well (or so I’m told). Mind you, we both agree that the japanese people can be odd sometimes, this was said after watching a student play an emulated game of [edit]WarrioWare[/edit](or something like that) which was a desisively random collection of Micro games (lasting only 3 seconds long each) which consited of “Eat a steak! bounce a ball! fly a plane! Poke the carrot! Stab the egg!” and required a reaction time about as good as the computer’s (mind you, the student nearly beat the game. Funny that.)

English - Mandarin … I don’t see why france is really that important tho [well at least for me]

Japan … I learnt that because I used to have an urgency to find myself a girlfriend from japan  woohoo

Your all wrong.

Music is the most important language. Its the only one that knows no boundaries and has no borders. People can speak totally different languages and not understand one another…but they can easily communicate through music. Music is universal, every culture has it in some form or another.

Music is the most important language. Every culture on this planet speaks it to some degree. It knows no borders and has no boundaries. You can take two people with no language in common and no way of understanding one another…but through music they can communicate.

love, drugs and music… the root of all civilizations.
Oddly as it may seem, many conservative parties around the world find these themes dispicable (sp?).

french used to be the trading language (like three hundred years ago) but quickly got surpassed by the brits. Now it’s long dead. I’m sorry but there’s no way it is the second language on the world, as people said over the world there’s mandarin and spanish far ahead, I don’t know for the rest…

Imo the greatest language (to communicate) is body language…

lol lol lol, just thinking of all the slang through out australia’s different states. also the ammerican use of the word jelly for jam.

i think that english is proberly the most stupid language in the world with the many dialects / versions of it. Plus there are so many different rules with grammer and stuff like that.

 So many different rules ? You’ve got to be kidding. Try learning german or french for a change. You’ll see what grammar means =) .
In my opinion english is popular because it’s easy to learn…

English really isn’t that easy to learn, we have so many conflicting rules. I before E except after C. None of it makes sense. I think english is so popular because our culture is such a presence in the world. Just like in Civ you can win by cultural dominance. :stuck_out_tongue:

The I before E except after C rule is broken anyway…

Why are all english rules broken?

I think math is the most important language mostly everything has to do with numbers heck computers read everything in binary numbers so without numbers none of these computers or the www would be working so numbers is the most important languag lol :stuck_out_tongue:

you are totally right with the binary… Who cares what language a web site is in, just translate it to the one you want. heck Google will do it for you right now. I think the most important language is the one you speak. If you can use your language effectivly then it can be translated to any other language.

I remember growing up in the 80s being told that I needed to learn Japaneese because there economy would over take the US by 2000 and all our bosses would be in Japan. I guess you could argue if that came true or not, but I know a lot of people that work for globablized complanies and none seem to need to learn another language to preform their job. Maybe study up on the culture, but not necessarily the languages…

english is hard to learn, believe me i try

as far as translation goes, that’s usually too much of a bother for your average consumer. A well designed site needs to hit the target audience. The target audience is NEVER going to speak binary. You guys are being silly. :stuck_out_tongue:
But I think those that said French isn’t 2 or high up are probably right, and I myself never really thought it was, jsut was posting what I had heard in class to get your thoughts.
thanks

not importat for peole to speak binary, the point is, if you use the rules of your language to write your site, then use of math (binary) to translate that site to any other language is relativly easy. You can even determine what language the user of your site speaks by looking up where their ISP is. I was in Puerto Rico for busniess the a couple weeks ago and I went to Google from my hotel. It came up in Spanish because Google assumed that using that ISP ment I spoke Spanish.

oh neat, yah I understand you now.

In the english language we don’t have rules so much as humble suggestions.
-Me.

For that one reason, english is one of the harder languages to learn. Not only that, but english is a language full of synonyms (infact, correct me if I’m wrong but I think it’s the top language for that sort of thing). Not only that, but english is a very fluid language. The same phrase or idea can be stated at least 3 times (as a rough guide) using varying combinations of synonyms. Add on top of that the fact that centence structure can vary as well. Example: I gave some candy to the boy. I gave the boy some candy. The boy recieved the candy from me. I gave the child a treat. The list goes on. Compare this to french (for example) where everything happens in a set order. Example: J’ai donne les bonbon à l’enfant. (Directly translated: I have give the candies to the child, But literally translated it means: I gave the candy to the child. French past tense is a little funny that way :trout: ) Anything else would be poor grammar in French. As far as I know, you can’t say “I gave the child candy” without switching it around to say something slightly different. This explains why translating between any language and english doesn’t always work out. :smirk:

If you haven’t already guessed, languages intrigue me :trout:
