The rubber-hose look still rules, but I’m more impressed by how readable the new lighting and outlines are in motion since that style can turn into visual mush fast. If the Switch 2 version holds a steady frame rate, this seems like a really nice fit for handheld.
Yeah, readability is basically the whole challenge with rubber-hose animation, and this trailer does a good job keeping the silhouettes clear even when the backgrounds get busy. I just hope the Switch 2 version doesn’t lean too hard on bloom or motion blur, because that’s usually what makes a stylized game look muddy on a small screen.
Ngl I’m more worried about the handheld screen than raw performance — rubber-hose stuff lives or dies on crisp outlines. If they give us a “sharp/film grain off” toggle I’ll be happy.
