Moviecliploader - nested SWF & hittest-URGENT

I have a hittest that works perfectly when tested as an independent SWF file but the moment is loaded via moviecliploader into another SWF, the hittest performs very poorly. can anyone provide a solution or explanation? i’ve tried everything and am faced with changing reams of code and my organization structure at this point. thanks in advance
