I kinda surprise, today I had a lunch with my friends, and I thought they probably knew about this OGG thingy, apparently they didn;t know anything about ogg, they thought I was talking about an egg
Anyway, those of you who don’t know about ogg, ogg is an audio file, just like wav and mp3. But with ogg you can get a good quality almost the same with mp3 with 1/2 size of mp3… well it depends, but the thing is… the size is smaller than mp3.
pretty cool I think…
I hope macromedia will add ogg as a new feature for the upcoming flash.

**hmm, but i bet they cant go onto a miniDisc or CD right? **
no, most conventional players will not recognize OGG because it is open source and won’t make the RIAA very happy. you can find more information on www.xiph.org
So what every now and then there is a new format coming out, mp3, wma, ogg (vorbis), aac, im afraid of the compatibility issues… I stay with good old mp3 (oh and what about mp4 ?)

i’m afraid these formats have always been out, it’s just that nobody’s been using them so nobody knows about them. as for MP4, it was believed that AAC was going to be adopted by MPEG, but that never happened. Another format you all may not know about is VQF. and as for compatibility issues, you won’t need to worry about them. you won’t need to use those formats unless you direly want to. so far, the only format above besides mp3 that i’ve seen used is in some or all of the Unreal games. if you notice, there are some *.ogg files in the sound/music folders. it saves developers money because in order to use MP3 they’d have to get a license or something to use it. it’s all in that site i put above.
