Music Embedded on Sites

Hey everyone. I am creating this poll to try and help convince someone about embedding music into an HTML site.

He thinks embedding music files in an html page is like the coolest thing and he insists he wants to do it no matter what I say.

So what this poll is about is… am I wrong?.. is embedding music on html sites a hip cool thing to do?.. or am I right and is it just flat out horrible idea and it is one of those “just because you can doesn’t mean you should” deals?

I really need to know…

I usually surf without my speakers turned on, just because there is so much garbage out there…

People can be turned off by music just as easily as it puts them in a good mood…

I voted… go figger which one… :beam:

I just talked one client out of music on her site… at the quality she wanted the music, one would have to wait for 700k of background music to dl…

Before I am killed for my vote, I will explain. The first time I go to a site and the music is cool, I like it. But after a while, it gets annoying, but sometimes, I like it…This only happens once in a while, most of the time I get annoyed.

shoot anyone that does definitively … :stuck_out_tongue:

Glad to see more people agree it is evil and should not be allowed.

so we all hate pop ups advertisement specifically, full screens and sound in a html page ?? :stuck_out_tongue:

has anyone ever been to a site that had 2 MIDI songs playing at once? Those are the worse…:stuck_out_tongue:

Music on a web site without a mute button that mutes the sounds on every HTML page is really BAD! I find MIDI music to be quite annoying, and I usually have something playing in WMP anyway.

Cheers!

it really depends, thats why i chose Eh, its alright. as long as its not an ongoing loop…

Wow… who chose “Yeah, it rocks!” ???

That person is crazy… :stuck_out_tongue:

i think its ok… it sorta makes the web site a little better. i have real player on my site and i leave it viewable so people can mute it if they want=)

I chose “Eh, it is alright”, because it depends on what site youre on i guess, and if you have the option to turn it off. In an html site, probably not a great idea, unless you have something built in to turn it off as well … on flash sites, its cool most of the time, especially on a music artist’s site, where they are playing the latest single or whatever. but, the most important thing is that you can STOP THE MUSIC. So if you cant stop it on an HTML site, dont start it.:smirk:

I think if you are going to have it, then start it off stopped.

I mean… why should people suffer the extra load time (mainly talking dial ups here) because someone thinks its cool to be annoying?

And for those of your who are dying to ask me “What about music on Flash sites” well I don’t really enjoy that either, I usually cruise the web listening to my own music on the computer, and overlapping music sucks. Hmm, which will I turn off? Mine, or the sites? Yep you got it… the sites

Not to say in Flash it isn’t a good feature, some music I get into on Flash sites, but to me that is just different than having it on an HTML page where it loads and starts all over with each page you enter, and the sound is low quality of it not the file size is large.

See, i think for what i was talking about, a music artist’s website, music playing when you come in is good and expected. Its a musician or singer’s website … youre coming because youre interested in their music for the most part. Playing that when you first come in is fine … on a music site. Other sites … the little atmosphere music, that does get annoying sometimes.

i think a little people should start making it so when they enter a flash site. they chan choose if they want music to play with the intro or not to play with the intro.:beam:

You also have to think about what the client wants … if they want their song playing when you first get there … it better be playing!:smirk:

most clients have songs that they want to use that they do not own the rights to, which creates a problem.

I think properly executed sound in Flash, with a visible mute button is the way to go, but as far as embedding sound into an HTML, that is a sin, and should be punishable by death.

I haven’t read all posts in this thread, I just wanted to give an example of how music can be put to good use.

check www.filterqueen.dk (skip past the lame intro), and enter the site.

My dad used tiny midi files for the back music, and in this case, it works well actually, on load, the site picks a random song (we have about 6-7 different tracks)

this is music put to good use… bad use is when amateurs use REALLY short loops that drives the surfer crazy in seconds…

thats not put to good use … i cant stop it :frowning:
