Napoleon Dynamite

this has to be the weirdest (derogatively used) movie i’ve seen in a very long time

an alienated teenage boy trying embarrassingly to be a ninja or superhero, thinking nunchak (spelling?) and bo skills are what life is about, struggles with his peers rejection and the troubles of finding a girl for a dance in a small, stuck-in-the-80’s town somewhere in idaho…

everything looks cheap, the actors are mildly talented nobodies, and it’s so slow paced that compared to it five valium feel like an amphetaminated coffee on extasy…

…on the other hand, the movie is a credible, satirical exageration of small-town life and according to this, the characters are strong and clearly drawn. what the film draws from mostly is the weird, clumsy, sometimes retarded ways in which napoleon, the anti-hero, responds to the challenges of real life…to me tho, that didn’t neither provoke laughter nor compassion, but rather made me hope that an unexpected truck passed by to relieve the boy from it’s misery…wham, the end. didn’t happen…

that movie made the impressive amount of about 40 million u$ so far, so i guess some of you have seen it already, on movies.yahoo.com pretty much all reviews classify it as a+, i don’t get it…what did you think?
