ok here is my problem…
I found a freelance job to work on for a up and coming musician (rap). The job was free (full flash site) but I figured it would give me good experience, exposure blah blah. I met this kid’s production manager and he is actually legit. (he is mentioned on eminem’s offical website). I told them ( nothing written or signed) that i would do the site for them for free but i had all design rights etc and then once signed, i would be paid accordingly…he agreed but no contract. YES YES i know, stupid, learned my lesson there ;).
manager decided on the layout design for the site and i began it today. He tells me that they are gonna use another design idea that i presented to them for their CD cover and to add some more stuff to it. WOW i would get all design credit blahblah.
Now im thinking, ok this is way to much for free. These are the comments we exchanged:
ME:
this is a huge project, design, ideas, actual compositing, web site, etc… when we meet im gonna have a contract with me, once he is signed, theres only so much i can do free, especially copyrighted material
HIM:
ok cool. maybe we should just take it one step at a time then and finish the website first. i don’t want to give you too much at once and I know you’re busy. a contract would be tough at this point. i actually don’t even have a contract with the company. we should probably just take it step by step.
ok i know im being dramatic, but im not quite sure wut to do right now or how to go about this considering this is somewhat my first legal binding. I was planning on meeting him in a few days with the final screenshots of the soon to be site with a legal contract.
does it sound like im getting stiffed right now or if he doesnt sign a contract then walk??
thanks, sorry for venting
