The company I work for is looking into a backup system to protect all of our files, since currently, there’s nothing in place. We have 5-6 different computers to back up.
I’m trying to decide between getting some in-house network storage (probably RAID 1), and an online backup service.
The online backup would be nice in case of a fire or something, and, I think, would require less set-up. It also provides unlimited past file versions, and really well-protected data. But, it wouldn’t be very fast, and for 1TB of space it would cost around $5,000/year, since we have 5-6 computers.
Network storage would probably be faster, and we could get it for a one-time price of $500-$800, plus $500 for Retrospect backup software (unless there’s a better one you know of). But the backup itself wouldn’t be quite as thorough and safe.
So… I’m not sure. What do you guys think? We have about 250GB of design files, plus probably another 50GB of random files to protect. But those numbers will definitely go up as time goes on, so I want to have plenty of room.
Thanks
