For anyone using the flashobject route (like myself), I just made some HTML templates to publish “flashobject-ready” html straight from Flash…

I think someone just needs to gun down Eola.
my god this is ridiculous…i want to kill something! Loads of sites i did have flash menus in them!!!
AAAAAAAAAAA!!!
Quote from actionscript.org
I don’t know if I want to blame Windows/Bill Gates, or do I want to blame a jackass who wants to patent the embedding of objects into a browser. I think I also heard about an idiot who’s suing because he patented the embedding of A GIF FILE.
I’m sorry? Come again? So then, is there a patent out for the use of the word “email”? Or hyperlinks? Or the scrollbar? I mean seriously, this is insane. I love that somebody developed the process, but I just don’t know how useful it is to make the company stop something that is now so widespread… the end result will be the total frustration of IE users everywhere.
But wait! you’re thinking that Firefox is safe? The dude (Eaolas is the company) is leaving Firefox alone because they’re open source, but I wouldn’t bet money on it. IE is still the largest browser and the backlash on this is going to be huge… and I wouldn’t be surprised if either Gates or Eolas DO end up going after Firefox as well.
But surely a judge will step in to stop the whole mess, right? I mean, suppose I patent the ability for a car to take a left turn. Okay, if I own the patent, can I then go after Ford and make them manufacture cars that can only turn right? Seems stupid.
Not that I want to jinx this, but wasn’t the update supposed to go out on April 11th? I downgraded from IE 7 Beta to IE 6… and wow… the Internet is so much better. I don’t want to see those gray outlines!
What’s going on with this issue? :stunned:
I think Eolas is going after MSFT and IE because they know there is money envolved. They smelled the cash and they’re going after it.
Firefox, Avant, Opera, Safari are small time by comparison.
I think the amount of money they talk about paying to use the patent is too much for such a small time browser like these.
Firefox is not payed, which means that the patent isn’t bringing income to anyone. As I believe they said. The patent is only going to be paid if there is money coming out of the use of it. www.eolas.com
So the likeliest browser to be hit next would actually be safari.
Market share is not high, but it’s payed…
Why waste the time? :trout:
I guess we need to start praying for a new method of loading flash content.
…^ The end of flash?
Well… the update to IE is starting to hit.
…and I can’t get the fix from Adobe to work. :puzzle:
I installed the latest updates for Internet Explorer last night and now all Flash content gets an ‘alt tag’ style popup that says
Press SPACEBAR or ENTER to activate and use this control
This is annoying ! For example, if you have pop-up menus or any other ROLLOVER type actions, they will not work now by default in IE.
I really hope someone can tell me I’m wrong about this, but as it appears to me, as soon as users install this update, Flash content is going to be seriously compromised.
Take a look at this thread: http://www.kirupa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=211096
That’s what I’m talkin’ about! :thumb2:
Oh… and the link in the above post doesn’t work. :!:

Ok, using the Adobe workaround, I:

sweet.
Is this IE update optional? Because it doesn’t appear that mine has changed.
Well… I can stop freaking out now! =)

[]My Flash Paper is not broken by this update. The full screen mode still works!
[]Wordpress users have it easy. There’s a plug-in that quickly resolves this issue… http://www.kimili.com/plugins/kml_flashembed …and it makes working with Flash much easier.
I would guess so… i have auto update on and IE is still the same.

There is another explanation here, which also offers the downloads for the fix. It also contains some background information on the problem and politics regarding IE.

This is driving me crazy. I’m really a newbie at developing websites. However, I’ve been trying to implement flash in everything I do.
Recently, I made my own ZenCart site, and I used flash to make a few buttons in the header. But now I’m experiencing this problem and I can’t seem to get any of the fixes to work.
Can anyone, who is familiar with ZenCart, help me out here?
