Flash is a pain with imported graphics.
Try this…
Open up your .fla file. Go into your library. Find your imported image in there. Right click on it… go to “Properties”.
Mess with the options in there.
And when you publish, make sure that jpeg quality is at 100%

flash compresses all graphics and such with jpg compression so any jpgs that you have will get compressed as a jpg again.
Basically what you are doing is compressing it twice which can lead to image degredation.
To elimanate this and not have to worry to much abotu filesize import your graphics as .png as png is a high quality image format that will support transparency. Then when the movie is published they will be compressed with jpg compression thus resulting in little to no image degredation. Also you could do this with .bmp but .bmp file formats do not support transparency.
Admiralskeet: In the properties of your image in the library you can edit the compression quality. It defaults it at 50%, but you can change it to 100% quality. This gets rid of the degredation.
lost you are right, but what about filesize issues. Which method would be better?
jumps in
Losts way makes the sizes smaller. If you use a Jpg it’s going to be smaller than a PNG almost always. The only time I ever use PNG files is if the design I am building needs tranceperancy or isnt going on the web. Otherwise, Jpg files work great if you uncompress them in flash.
ok, you convinced me!
Yes PNGs are definitely larger file sizes.
PNGs are also more CPU intensive if involved in tweens or any other kind of motion. Especially if the image contains partial transparency. It isn’t something that bogs down your CPU, but its just a bit more CPU intensive then regular images.
Thanks you guys for all your help. I appreciate it .
