I am trying to make my first flash game and i need some help with it

ow how to set it up so that the mouse can be used to direct a paddle of sorts around the stage for this pong like game. I have tried using startdrag and whatnot but it doesnt seem to work. I think it might be the way i am using the paddle symbol. anyone want to help?
