Whenever I create an .swf file of an animation the symbols that I start OFF stage and move onto the stage still show up in the .swf . yes, they are off to the side but the reason I started them out there was to hide them and move them into frame. It seems to me that it’s kind of obvious that I don’t want them seen until they are actually on the stage. Why does flash export the images outside the stage and how can I prevent that from happening?
Well if you’re viewing it in the test mode then it will definitely show whatever symbols that are outside the stage area as well, but if you publish it out to a swf and html, it shouldn’t show those symbols at all. Have you tried viewing it while it’s in a html document?
I usually create a new layer and use the line tool to trace out the canvas in Flash, then I lock the layer. This lets me define my area in the test mode so I can see what it will look like in the html file by looking within the boundaries of the lines I drew.
Please see this example to see what I mean.

I only want the stage area to be seen, not what’s outside of it. The same thing happens when it’s published in html.
In the example, the rain starts outside the stage and then scrolls through the stage and back out. Like I said I only want the rain visible when it’s on the stage. Help?
anyone??
well…you need to make the stage smaller then…because if it is showing up then your rain is definately on the stage…
or put a mask over it if that is not the case…
this will definately help…
doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. If your canvas size is set correctly (check dimensions in the property pallet), it will NOT display when you plublish to HTML. Another thing to check is your publish settings. Like the page, btw, pretty cool.
If you continue to have problems, just post or email the fla and we’ll have a look. (havent’ seen anyone here “steal” anyone else’s work).
Good luck.
Well the link you posted is directly to the .swf file, so I am not sure how it would look in an HTML file like your supposed to embed it in.
Also, if in your publish settings (File/Publish Settings) if you click on the HTML tab, there will be a drop down box towards the bottom for “Scale:” If that is set to “No Scale” it will show all off stage items if the browser window permits.
Well, Lost… sounds like we’ve done it again.
Hows it feel to be back in action Montoya? We/I missed ya man. You disappeared for the longest time!
Life has been, well, complicated.
It’s good the excercise the brain a bit. Glad to be back. Hope I can start participation as I used to…
Yeah, I can understand the complicated part. I am glad you are back now though, we need you
Well, thanks for the help!
I’m at work now so I can’t play around with it, but I BET the problem lies within the “Publish Settings” option. I’ll bet I have it set wrong.
I do know that the rain area is indeed OFF of the stage/canvas area. I didn’t post the link to the html version because my friend altered the html to “cover” the areas I didn’t want to be seen. (it’s actually a friend’s web space I used)
But I’ll try the File/Publish Settings and play around with it when I get home.
Thanks again. This is the best Flash Help forum out there!
