Notebook doesn't start

Help. My dad’s Sony Vaio suddenly busted or something!

Now when switched on, it shows the Sony logo for a couple of seconds, then a blinking underscore (_), then it restarts and shows the Sony logo again, and keeps repeating the process.

any ideas how I could fix this? i doubt the cds given will work, because it doesn’t even get to booting. also, I need to salvage the files inside :frowning:

hmm… borrow a friends laptop and shove the hard drive inside? I think they’re compatible…

Ring up sony if it really isn’t booting (ie no way to boot off a floppy or cdrom) - they’re the only people who could fix a problem like that :slight_smile:

ah ok, thanks for the idea. i’ll try that tomorrow (it’s past midnight now)

when it’s “booting up” try to get into the bios.

try hitting delete, all the F-keys, shift + F10, or escape.

if you do manage to get into the bios, set your computer to boot from cd first and pop in a recovery disk.
