How was this site done www.shopcomposition.com I am looking at setting up a webisite with an online shop and I came across this and it’s amazing. How hard would it be to pull somthing like that off and what would be involved in making it.
It woulnt be that hard, a bit of a time investment and dealing with things moularly would probably get that store built within a week. The products menu is just some tricky code, but definately an acheivable goal.
I say go for it.
Do you have any Idea as to how to get started I ant exactly the most tallented of people when it come to flash as I am really actually still new to it and getting my feet grounded.
Do you know of any good tutorials or anything like that because I would love to be able to pull this off and I have the time I just got to find a place to sort of get the ball rolling a bit know what I am going to be needing. would it all be AS or is there other script which i should be using along side flash and AS?
this is Flash/PHP/MySQL. Like i said, take it one step at a time, Start with the main page, then build the menu, the build the products page, then make the database stuff work, then work on the cart, then integrate the gateway for purchases.
ok so just a couple more queastions just want to kind of have a clear idea of where I’m headed with this so I dont get confused later.
Where could I find a desent script for a shopping cart should I be looking at the pay $400 script or is there a nicer cheaper way?
And this queation should probally have gone befor the last one. Would I be creating the entire shop including the script and or should I be using a premade script?
And Finaly if you come across or know off any good tutorials would you be able to flick em my way? As I have been trying to find some at the moment and I am not having much luck.
Anyway apriciate the help so far.
There is a book you can get at most good bookstores called ‘Flash 8 @ Work’ and it has a whole tutorial on stores in flash, including carts, payment options, product databases, etc… I recommend buying it and giving it a read, it will be your best resource for this project:)
I’ll have to check that out. So basically, all that you really need to spend money on to manage a shopping cart site, is SSL ? Is it necessary to use a 3rd party to actually process the credit cards?
yes, you require third party. Most people just use Paypal though, it is trasparent when using a seller account in paypal and people can pay with credit card or paypal. Then all you have to deal with is the cart becasue with paypal, you dont require a cetifricate or anything anoying and expensive:)
Edit: Me know speel mutch:)
Transparent meaning the customer doesn’t have to actually leave your site?
I’ve seen worse:lol:
I would consider finding a good well written store application, this will give you the majority of your backend already written, but more importantly the people who make those most of the time focus ALOT on security, leaving you to not have to deal with it so much. If you have the entire back-end you can just create an interface to it through Flash. This also, when your done, gives you the benefit of having the store implemented in both Flash and HTML which increases the amount of customers, potentially of course.

Can you recommend any opensource ones? Or relatively inexpensive.
I have not used it but it seems to be the best I have found.
