Not yet, but considering I already have Office 07, it’s highly unlikely that I ever will.
Meh. Office 07 is only a few bucks for uni students so rather go for the real thing than something that took this long to even try to catch up with office (I’ve used the previous version on my friends computer and yea not that great of a program its very clunky to use and moving stuff messes up a lot).
I <3 Ribbons.
Mac has its tools, Windows has its… and well Linux gets OO.
OpenOffice does everything I need, I’ve had no gripes. Version 3? Neat.
I believe that OpenOffice is great idea and software altogether. 3rd world countries or anyone really who doesn’t want to pay nothing for MS or has no money for it can use it freely, schools that governments don’t fund can enjoy fine software. People that use Linux OpenOffice is the only way to go. in a way OpenOffice is better than MS office just because its a cross platform . MS office is no doubt pretty.
I haven’t got around to trying the beta yet (Mostly cause I don’t share documents with anyone who has Office 2007). I really like Open Office though. I prefer OO Write over Word. I don’t care much for it’s Excel clone, although I don’t care much for Excel either, but otherwise it’s an excellent software package at an excellent price.
I tried it long ago when it was in it’s early versions and it was terrible, but now it’s actually pretty good. In my opinion Word hasn’t had any significant improvements since 97 so Writer does everything I need.
… After rereading what I typed it seems a little agressive. OO, is a great software for lower funded school districts and has done wonders for the linux community. I should of stated it, if one uses these softwares on a normal basis they will in a short time notice all of OO downfalls and generally not so user friendly setup (trust me if you’ve ever taken a business class and were timed to make a professional looking document you would be done with the office tools much quicker than with OO set).
I actually use AbiWord on my Ubuntu set-up lol…I find it much better than the OO set-up… However, when using doc files between Word and than AbiWord, the formatting is always screwed up. That’s something that bugs the hell out of me. Otherwise, I’m content.
It still looks like crap on both OS X (from screenshots; I haven’t seen it in GTK yet), but it does look to have some nifty features. I’ll get it when it pops into Sid (Debian Unstable); really, I never use OpenOffice. LaTeX/LyX and Pages suffice for most everything.
