OSCAR: best animated Film

http://www.apple.com/trailers/disney/spirited_away.html

Its coming out to theaters again. I saw this with my girlfriend in september, Disney finally pulled their head out of their AS5es and are now re-releasing it for 800 screens.(ignore the fact that the stupid piglet movie is gonna be shown in 2,000). Anyway please go see this movie. Its genius on MANY levels. Id pay money just to be able to draw 1 frame of this movie. Congrats Studio Ghilbi for finally getting the recognition they deserve. BTW miyazaki is a genius. THE end.[

agreeded.

although Disney still blows :stuck_out_tongue:

Disney doesn’t deserve to distribute miyazakis films: Ie: Totoro, Princess mononoke etc

gotta love corporate america

I think I’ll go to that movie tomorrow with my girlfriend

Miyazaki’s been very popular in France for quite some time now. I think he was really “discovered” with Porco Rosso, then My Neighbour Totoro (direct translation from the French title :-\ ), Princess Mononoke, Spirited away (that we call The Journey of Chihiro  ) and finally The Castle in the Sky, which is an old one, but I haven’t seen it yet.

And you’re right: it’s crazy that Disney should distribute those movies. But at least someone does…

I saw Spirited Away for the first time during the holidays when I bought the DVD for someone for Christmas.

On a somewhat unrelated note: you guys should also check out Grave of the Fireflies. Everyone should see this film… especially at times like these…

I didnt know an aniamtion would make me feel the way GoF made me feel.

Spirited Away was awesome!!

is GoV on DVD? is it a miyazaki flic?

It’s sort of but not really a Miyazaki film. It was produced by his studio and you can definitely tell that Miyazaki had a hand in the artwork… but it is worlds different from Totoro (for example). No flying cat schoolbuses here.

And yes, it is available on DVD.

I just got this on DVD couple days ago for my bday. Just wathced it last night. All I can say is WOW…WOW. That’s the most amazing animated film I have ever seen. It gave me wierd/good feelings as I watched it. That character (the main lady, big head) is the coolest character EVER. Holy crap I love that movie. AMAZING.

although spirited away wasn’t really that great. I thought it was soo inconsitent. I mean the story line and the animations. It just seems that different animators got thier hands on bits and pieces of it and added thier own touch. Even the story line, take for example no-face. First he was eating poeple then wanting to destory the girl and for no reason he became her firend?!!!. What’s up with that?. Even the witches sister. It was kind of hard to follow. I’ll never understand why people consider this one of miyazakis’ greatest work. In my opinion Princess Mononoke was a whole lot better than this. Hell even Kiki’s delivery service was better than this

I’m gonna see this one next time for sure!
I loved Monsters Inc. too though.

I saw this film when it hit American screens the first time, and I will se it again on the big screen despite having the DVD. It is an excellent work. I have also seen Princess Mononoke on the big screen, another excellent film. I am waiting for Amazon to deliver Castle in the Sky and Kiki’s Delivery Service, I really want to see those as well… I am a huge Anime fan (I have 300+ DVDs) and the most powerful single piece I have seen to date is Grave of the Fireflies. It makes you realize the horrible things people can do to each other. It makes me sad just thinking about it. Majeye: It is out on DVD, it may take some looking but I am sure Amazon has it.

Cheers!

Grave of the Fireflies was a great movie, but awfully depressing.

Definately worth watching once.
