0k here is what I want to do… I’m totally dumb with 3dStudioMax but I can usually do what I want with Swift3d v.3. So here’s the idea… I want to have a logo ( just text rendered in 3d ) but it’s painted black over a black background… I want a green eeirie looking light to pass behind it and the rays that will be blocked by the text will allow the user to see the text.
I hope I’m making sense here… it’s something you see often in cinema when a logo comes on… volumetric lights and all !! it would look awesome!
are you trying to do this in max or sv3?? In either what you basically want to do is place a free floating spotlight behind you object with no other light sources make sure the ambience and reflectivity is black. The animate your light (spin it on the y axis). As it passes it should achieve the effect you want. Play with the fade cutoof and tightness of the light. Also you wanna set your camera up in a good podition to take full effect of the scene. It is alil more indepth in 3ds but if you know how to do those few things you should get it/.
