Pentium M vs Pentium 4

Hi,

I want to know how you can compare the Pentium M processor, which can be found in de Centrino laptops, to a normal Pentium 4 processor.

Some say it’s like this:

  • Pentium M 1.5 GHz = Pentium 4 1.8GHz
    (so just add 300 MHz)

Others say it’s like:

  • Pentium M 1.5 GHz = Pentium 4 2.3GHz
    (add 800 MHz)

Anyone an idea???

Your second one seems more accurate. If you can, go with a Pentium M. The performance issues on a high-end Pentium M and Pentium 4 are not too different, but you will find that the Pentium M uses less power and produces less heat. Pentium M’s are, because of those two advantages, great for laptops.

The only problem is that Pentium M’s do cost more than Pentium 4’s though.

Thx

Now I can go out and buy that laptop !!!
