PHI in web-design

I’ve seen a lot of people and sites suggest using PHI in web design. And though I really, really like it. I’m afraid every site is going to start looking the same. Web2.0 format, PHI dimensions, contrasting color schemes with Serif headlines and all done in CSS 3 col liquid layouts.
I guess the question is, should we accept standard designs, or should we all jump to Flash and begin making interactive sites that showcase our creativity?

Does anyone have any examples of a combination of the two? IE: Site designed with Phi in mind, but making use of clever Flash?

You can design a site however you want and still adhere to PHI, its ultimately up to the designer to step outside of the box and produce something different.

This was the question everyone asked when semantic code and web standards started making it big…
And since then Flash has fallen to the way-side in terms of full-blown flash sites. So if you “jump to Flash and begin making interactive sites”, you’re pretty much time travelling into the past when this technique of website creation was cool, and accepted

Hey, people use Flash sites for portfolios and products a lot (http://www.thefwa.com). It doesn’t seem like it stopped being accepted so much as the “standards people” want you to believe.

Lies!!!

but seriously, if you want to build full flash sites, then by all means,

just make sure you’re doing it to actually take advantage of the power of flash, and not just to 2advance-ify it

I take the approach of just doing it because everyone else is, doesn’t make it correct. So many “designers” just use flash because they can…and it’s cool or was cool. Many forget about usability, users ect… Its our job as designers to figure out the proper medium(flash, css, ajax ect) to use to give the end user the best possible experience for each project.

I agree, it’s completely site dependent.

2Advanced is pretty though. drools

I’d like to figure out what all this jive about AJAX is.

Btw, though I’m sure you know this, I just found out you can use Photoshop’s Marquee tools + Fixed Ratio to create some easy/sweet grids. Well… I’m figuring it out.
